Many diverse species populate the planet Earth. The sum of all ecosystems creates the biosphere. Each and every ecosystem depends on the continued survival and protection of its various plant and animal life in order to function. Pollution, deforestation, overhunting, and other factors threaten many species today.
Conservation status is used to define the danger level associated with a species on the IUCN Red List. A species may be listed as extinct, extinct in the wild, critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable, near threatened, or least concerned. There are currently over 10,000 species listed as vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered.
My blog aims to educate readers about species on all levels of the conservation status spectrum. Humans must respect nature and learn to value the many wonderful animals that share this planet with us.
